PDP – Getting the most out of your time at the University of Salford
Your time at university will be an important and formative period in your life. In addition to studying in depth a subject area of particular interest to you, you will also have many opportunities to: gain new experiences; discuss and share ideas with a wide range of people, including students from overseas; develop new interests, make life long friends and develop skills and qualities which will be of value in gaining that important first graduate level job and in life in general.
To help you exploit the full potential of being a member of the student community at Salford , the University provides all students with opportunities to think about and plan for their academic, personal and professional development . This process is referred to as Personal Development Planning (PDP).
Engaging in a process of PDP can help you:
- do well in your studies by helping you to think about what you want to achieve and what you need to get there
- plan your development by helping you to identify your skills and abilities
- identify how the skills developed can be transferred to employment situations
- plan your career by helping you to think about your options
- help you build up a record of experiences and achievements – invaluable when you apply for jobs
- prepare for life beyond university.
It is increasingly recognised that understanding how you are learning, as well as what you are learning, has a positive impact on student attainment and is a sought after attribute by employers who are seeking adaptable graduates to meet the needs of a fast moving knowledge based economy.
